Ya, you sound like a boulderer, can't appreciate things you don't understand.

I like metal, prog, alternative, psych (among many other genres), and still hate Tool. I even listened to the JRE podcasts with Maynard and he seems like a cool dude, but man do I hate the music.

Next you're going to say something crazy, like "I hate Dream Theater".

Use social media to bash Social Media.

I own a 14-year old Subaru with some climbing and political bumper stickers. I suppose I'm not cool because PosiDave says so. I'm also sitting on the couch in my living room watching Sesame Street with my toddler while doing a bit of work. I have not voted for a Republican since 2004. Voting against one's own interest is not a cool thing, regardless of what FoxNews tells you.

I don’t think trolling mountainproject isn’t the same as telling people how great you climb and deserve to have a chalk sponsor...

I was a “flow” sponsored athlete for 5 years, never saw how pretending you are important or bragging about sponsors made your opinion or life more important than others. It meant you got Costs covered to do whatever sport and maybe extra.
I am only a republican supporter on MP, mainly because I think bashing people for political views just creates a further divide. Red vs Blue is about as cool as Trad vs sport. Being respectful goes a lot further than hating the other group.

Back on topic gym climbers are the fakes of the climbing world. They say they are real climbers, but their blood work says they are only 1/1064th climbers...

I think ninja warrior has had a very big role in the popularity of gym climbing. Because the only person to win it is a rock climber, every single person is like “Hey, let’s try to be cool and climb plastic. Then we can blast about it on our social media profiles”.

I find the instavideos of "ninjas" working out at climbing gyms pretty funny. Usually the lead wall is used as the background, and they're filming themselves doing some sort of plank variation with a plate.

Ninja stuff and vompetitive Crossfit kinda misses the "why" point of training - like what's the goal? To supplement work to get better at $thing or make that workout the actual $thing?

But who cares. If they're doing their thing, it makes them happy and they keep doing it: they're doing much better than most people working out in a gym.

if other people climbing in gyms ruins climbing for you....okiedokie!
i'm personally not a fan of gyms, in general i do not like agro atmospheres. however, i wouldn't say that i don't like people who climb in gyms.
i also don't like airplanes, they make no sense to me. however, i am grateful that other people fly them during rescue missions, they are very helpful :)
sounds like OP has some self searching to do, i've heard many times that the things we hate most in others bug us so much because we see these things in ourselves, which is why we tend to recognize them immediately. either way i would not want to climb with you! though i'm sure others would who wouldn't want to climb with me :)
let go and live!

As far as I can tell by this thread, the definition of a "real climber" is "someone who makes other people feel bad about climbing".

The rocks are still out there.

And for those wishing to not wait in line amongst the crowds, there are lots of rocks that have not yet been climbed, and few obstuctions to climbing them. Those who wish to climb need not wait for someone else to smooth the path for them.

TRIGGER WARNING
Gym climbing isn’t real climbing
It’s fun, great for training and how most people start nowadays but if that’s where you stop, you’re not really a climber.

You miss out on the culture, nature, scary trad routes, bad boulder falls etc.
I’ve seen people at the gym that have those “lead certified” cards on their harness from multiple gyms, like it’s a badge of honor.
Not really sure where I’m going with this, just rambling and scared for the future of climbing.

I dunno about that, but I can tell you this with certainty:

What they play in there on the PA sure as F%$# isn't MUSIC!!!
(wink).
