Does active synthetic insulation (eg polartec alpha, Patagonia nano air) get clapped out like primaloft?

Does this active insulation stuff behave like other synthetics (eg primaloft) by losing its loft  with repeated compression?  As a rule I don’t by used / second hand primaloft for this reason, and I’m trying to decide if I should have the same attitude towards this active insulation stuff.

My first and most used polartec alpha jacket seems to have lost some loft compared to another jacket that I have that's exactly the same with very little use.  Funny enough I also have 2 different alpha direct jackets and I can't tell any change in the loft of those over the last year.  One gets a lot of use in the mountains and the other has been part of my winter commuting kit for motorcycle commuting in the PNW so I'd say they also have different amounts of use at this point.  The 2 jackets that get used the most in the mountains have also been washed a lot which might have contributed to the loss of loft in the oldest alpha piece.

Hey man, Maybe a super-early adopter has more to say, but I haven't owned the Polartec Alpha stuff more than a couple seasons, so take that under advisement. I have the Rab Alpha Direct (2.5 years old), Rab Alpha Flux (1.5 years), and a super-new Rab Alpha Freak (two months old).....I tend not to stuff the jackets that often, as they're designed to be worn all the time....but so far, so good. I wore the Alpha Direct up on Longs Peak in winter conditions (it was October, but ice was in early last year), then ski-touring on super cold days (northern Canada, etc). I haven't noticed any loss in loft or performance. I like the stuff, for sure. Hope that helps.

Anyone interested in any-sort of synthetic-insulated jacket, whether for belay purposes or not, I couldn't recommend reading Max Neale's "Synthetic Jacket Review and State of the Market Report" over at Backpackinglight.com enough. It really dissects current synthetic insulations/trends, their pros & cons compared to one another, along with comparisons to down insulation, Clo values, fit and layering, etc..  It's super informative and to me, worth the BPL membership.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
