Advice: 50% off any Arc'teryx shell or switch to OR w the sick warranty?

I recently sent my 2008 Beta AR in for warranty inspection because it was falling apart. They're offering half off any shell I want. Should I jump on it or switch to OR for the crazy warranty? Thanks so much in advance.

I myself prefer OR stuff, love my Ferossi Pants/jacket.  And my Patagonia puffy...

But 50% off beats full price any time. And 2008 is a long time ago in clothing terms. I would jump on that deal. The Beta AR is an iconic piece of kit for the outdoors, and simply can't be beat on technical aspects.

If you end up not taking that offer, just slide it on this way....

Not sure man, all I know is what Arc'teryx offered and what I've rec'd from OR multiple times in the recent past. They may have changed, who knows. I got a super old OR Cathode on CL for $50. The zipper broke days after, I took it into the store here in SODO and walked out with a brand new one. This was last year.

yea, my experience has always been companies who manufacture apparel at this level handle warranties on a case by case basis. sometimes they repair, issue credits or just give new gear. mammut gave me a brand new backpack after my 3 year old heavily used trion guide ripped. AR has repaired jackets, so it's always a toss up.

AR is known for their shells, if you have the cash it's a no brainer.

My experience with OR is that it is no questions asked, no case-by-case basis, no repairing, no nothing other than standing behind their gear and replacing anything that has an issue.

Had good luck with OR warranty in the past, as in kinda my fault, no questions asked, replacement/shipping on their dime.

This spring, my warranty request was met with a "here's your RA # mail it in (on my dime), we'll look at it and might warranty it".

Anyone had a successful OR warranty in the past 6 months? Methinks a company policy has changed...

Yeah, I agree. It's probably between the Alpha AR and FL...hard to decide. Not sure which OR piece compares. Also, the Beta AR that I sent them was still fully functional and waterproof. It was the inside that started to go...bottom hem and such. It was full of Tenacious Tape.

Maybe Arc'teryx's warranty dept manager went to work for OR... I've returned 3 or 4 times to OR but always in person at the Seattle store.

As a one time OR employee, I can say that (as of 6 months ago) it is a no questions asked warranty. If you have an issue they will send you another. That being said, if I were in your shoes, I would take the 50% off AR. Its still cheaper than buying a new jacket. Furthermore 10 years is a hell of a long time in clothing terms, and you would have to take very good care of and get very lucky with an OR jacket for it to last that long.  To which I assume you would respond, who cares how long it lasts, ill get a new one. But you have to consider shipping costs, turn around time which can be 6-8 weeks, and last but not least your environmental impact from repeatedly getting new jackets.

your jacket lasted 10+ years! I have a bunch of arcteryx jackets, they have lasted way longer than any other jacket I've owned.... I would keep going with what works.

It may just me marketing hype, however, according to Arc’teryx, the new exterior fabrics they're using on the Alpha line & maybe even the Beta line is lighter and more durable than anything they've used previously.  Who knows, you may even get 20 years if you get a shiny-new Alpha FL!

I would stick with Arc'teryx! I absolutely love my Alpha AR and I personally know many people who have had their Arc'teryx shells 10+ years. And you can't go wrong with 50% off!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
