I am thinking of taking an extended trip to California this winter and was hoping for some beta on winter climbing in the High Sierra. I'm interested in moderate ice and snow routes as well as backcountry snowboarding. Any help on where to go, look, stay, and find partners would be appreciated.

look up the bishop area guide companies, its an easy way to find the classic routes. lone pine and bishop would be your best spots for lodging. bishop will have more climbers and lone pine more whitney peeps. no permits after november for most of it! ice climbing i think is up by bridgeport, ca which is further north.

this book will probably help your planning more than anything else... definitley cop well in advance, its alot to sift through. also they sandbag the distances IMHO.
