Anything at all in Williamsburg, VA?!

Work is sending me to Williamsburg, VA for at least a week in November. From the looks of it, the area is devoid of climbing, except for a gym at W&M, which I'm guessing isn't open to non-students. Is there anything around that I am not seeing? Or should I just plan on using the week to relax and brush up on colonial history?

+1 To Manchester. Not a destination crag, but interesting to say the least.

I wasn't in the area for long, but this https://www.mountainproject.com/area/107001749/rapp-rocks might be the closest climbable natural rock.  A little bit further away (2 hrs?)

Might as well go to Charlottesville instead.

Probably, yeah, but I don't know of anything else that close to Williamsburg.

As long as OP wears Hokie gear when he goes to Charlottesville he will be fine.

Hey Tony- that's my hometown.  Almost ashamed to admit it because it sucks so hard.  To answer your question, no.  Sadly there is nothing in the immediate vicinity.  The closest climbing or decent gyms are in Richmond- though a new bouldering gym that's really nice opened in Norfolk- but the tunnel and associated traffic sucks ass.

Anyway, I'm in Richmond which is about 45-60 minutes depending on how fast you drive. There are three gyms here- one has better setting but shorter walls until an addition goes in, the others have slightly taller walls and decent synthetic cracks.  You're more than welcome to pull on plastic here with my and my friends, and there's always Manchester.  Not the greatest or most varied climbing, but it's pretty pleasant in the fall, and a welcome break from indoor climbing if you can't get to any destination crags.  I'm out of town a lot during the fall, but if you need a partner, shoot me an email and let me know.

Awesome to hear, and I might take you up on that. I'll have time to kill and this sounds like a good start. Normally that time of year I'd be taking advantage of the cool temps at the RRG or NRG so maybe this trip won't be a total loss. Work is paying so I might as well have em send my gear too

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
