brooklyn gets another gym...
|
when does the new york climbing gym bubble burst? |
|
Considering how insanely crowded Brooklyn Boulders gym was when I visited couple of years ago, this seems like a great idea? |
|
Sure would love to see one east of Western Suffolk. Telling me that there is no market near the Hamptons? |

The Cliffs also just announced plans to open a new 40k'sq gym in Gowanus. They just signed a 25-year lease, and expect to open within 2 years (after the new Harlem and Philadelphia locations). |

Given that Gp81 is literally 4 blocks away and has the best bouldering in the city, and that this location appears to be bouldering only, I'd say they're pushing their luck. The Bushwick/Bed-Stuy/Crown heights area could definitely support a gym, but IDK if another bouldering gym in Greenpoint is a wise investment. Considering that GP81 has the die-hards on lock and the recreational/day pass climbers aren't going to go to a gym they can't climb routes at (esp with the looming L-train shutdown making it harder to get to), I don't have high hopes. The setting talent is already getting thin here. |

i love gp81! you can actually get on boulder problems on weekday evenings, and the setting is great! perfect laid back / try hard vibes. |

Vital has the bouldering concept wired and I'm sure you and the GP81 die-hards will be pleasantly surprised with what they deliver. They'll attract the setters and achieve the enthusiastic vibe and camaraderie you find at your favorite gym. This will be NY's premier climbing location - just wait.. |
