I am wondering if anyone has suggesfions for cheap, burly locking biners. Mostly for use with top rope anchors. Weight is not important, more interested in durability and good strength ratings. Thanks

Steel carabiners, obviously.

I have a set of steel oval lockers (I think liberty mountain) that work great for tr anchors

If you want light and durable check out the Edelrid bullet proof.  Doesn’t satisfy the cheap criteria though

Get 3 oval non lockers and oppose that gates.  Works great for toprope since they're super cheap, plenty strong, and really durable since the wear is spread over 3 carabiners.  It's also really smooth for rope pull since it creates a wide rope bearing radius.

You don't need lockers for top rope. If all you are doing is top roping and want lockers though even if you spend 40$ on 2 of them they will last over a year of top roping every day which really is nothing.

If you want burly cheap lockers, check these out at 31kn and aluminum by Omega Pacific.  http://www.omegapac.com/mobile/itemdetail.php?id=42&secid=20

But Steel ovals are nice too, if just TR ing for less aluminum on your hands and rope.  Petzl makes some great steel ovals but they are expensive.  They have all options from screw gate to triact lock.   petzl.com/US/en/Professiona…

Look at the steel options from Metolius, C.A.M.P., Kong, Fixe, etc.

You could also look for what climbers refer to as a mussy hook, which is just a chain hook with an integrated latch and an eye (though I don’t see why the pin version wouldn’t work). I’ve never seen anyone actually climb with these, but it’d certainly be funny to see and last you nearly a lifetime.

Heh... you could TR using keychain mini-biners. They'd last "a lifetime" too.  Yours.  :-)

I use black diamond rocklocks for my top rope anchors.

If you are set on a steel locking biner that's not to costly metolious makes some

Metolious biners

I use some Omega steel biners, they will last my lifetime.  They do weigh a ton though, so I only bring them out for short approach top roping.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
