I love my sirocco, lighter and stronger. Never had problems with the buckle.

Wow you guys are awesome. Thank you. I got the sirocco. I’m not gentle with things, the helmet will be going on the outside of my pac and I’ll probably drop it a lot. I will report back once I put it on my head.

Ok another decision I need help with. I don’t have the patience to go try on 10000 climbing shoes. I’ve used Miuras forever and ever. They are gold. But I absolutely never climb big walls.miuras on a big wall seem like death.  I will be climbing multipitch routes in the Dolomites with a guide- and I’ll prob be sport Climbing a few days. Anyways anyone have suggestions for shoes that you swear by for both- sport and multipitch??

I'm a huge fan of my BD VECTOR. It's like the Vapor without so many holes. Weighs about an ounce more. So comfortable I forget it's there.

The katana lace is a great shoe. Good for multipitch if sized right and also decent for sport.

I know OP already bought the Sirocco, but if others are looking; I have a Singing Rock Penta and I love it. It is about the same weight as the vapor but I think it can take more abuse, and it has headlamp clips and a UIAA cert. Super awesome helmet.

+1 for the Mammut Wall Rider. I am right in between BD helmet sizes, and the Wall Rider fits perfect. It’s super light, durable, has a great fit, and stays buckled!

FYI the sirocco magnets can be removed so they do not collect iron.

Yep. Me too. Popped off once after a small pendy, popped off again mid lead during a runout Crux. Now checking my helmet closure has become one of my safety checks. Stupid.

I have removed the magnet from one side of the buckle of my Petzl Meteor (one side seemed easier to remove than the other) and the buckle opens STILL sometimes mid route. Nothing like a piece of safety equipment that contributes to making a sketchy lead sketchier by having to find a no hands rest to reattach your helmet.

I'd definitely go with a Sirocco. I have the Meteor with the same magnetic clasp and I'd never had an issue with it. Stays clean and has never popped open - easy to secure with one hand.

Edit - just saw you went with the Sirocco. Good choice!

At least it was still there to be re-attached. Not so easy when it's hundreds of feet below your head.

All you people bitching about the buckle know that it’ll never come unclipped if you take half a second to give it a test pull before leaving the ground.

I've never had to pull test a helmet strap.  It clicks and you know it's fastened.  Anything less is poor design.  It's like saying "that speed adjust harness buckle wouldn't have come undone had you just test-pulled it from the ground".  The only thing I've ever test pulled is the rope in an auto assist device- and just as a double check to make sure it's not fed backwards.  Everything else should be able to be audibly or visibly checked.  Buckle, knot, helmet strap buckle/clip.  And everything is.  Except for this helmet strap that everyone's referring to.

+1. I always yank on the strap after putting on the helmet, not exactly hard to remember/do. If that's a deal breaker I can't imagine you can ever be satisfied with any product you buy...

The helmet itself is the best I've ever worn. Light, well aerated, low profile, sturdy, it's the first helmet I tend to put on regardless of where/what I climb.

Definitely go with the vapor if you have a smaller head. Mine fits perfect and the headlamp clips are super secure.

I actually find it amazing that Petzl has not recalled their helmets for the clip issues that so many people have experienced. I mean....imagine if Ford produced a seatbelt that needed to be test pulled.

  • 99% of the reason I no longer wear a Petzl helmet is because of the clip.
  • 1% is because it makes my head look like a penis.

SOOOOO. I put the Helmet on my head..and it felt a bit strange. Actually I'm currently still in it. The chin strap is not the most comfortable thing. And then I looked in the mirror. W.T. F. I don't think I'm a fan of this thing. I'm about to review all your comments again for the other options. Any other suggestions?

Again, try the wall rider. I think it's extremely underrated / unknown as far as helmets go. I love mine. It's comfortable, durable, and looks great.

I remembered Chris's 1% the second I looked in the mirror. NO Sirocco. I will try the wall rider and the Vector. On another note.... For those looking for climbing clothes that do not have the ability to smell bad:

YOU GUYS!  I found the best Merino Odor Free Shirt! Icebreaker Tech Lite Crew. I'm sharing because I WISH I didn't have to sweat through 9 shirts to find the right one.  Half of them smelled like dead livestock when wet and the others itched like mad crazy. So let me tell you everything I did in this shirt.
Day 1.) Ran on Treadmill for 50 min.
Day 2.) Bouldered  for 1.5 hours, waited for shirt to dry and then slept in it
Day 3.) Spin Class.
Day 4.) Spin Class.
Day 5.) Got some sort of stomach bug, sweat my brains out and ripped the shirt off right before I fainted (seriosuly.) the shirt  proceeded to dry in the crumpled up ball threw it into.
Day 6.) Ran on Treadmill for 50 minutes. I was soaked.
Day 7.) climbed for 3 hrs

THE SHIRT STILL SMELLS LIKE NOTHING. Hope that helps someone. You need this shirt in your life.

I'll report back about the helmet soon.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
