Well, it's hot as hell in NC right now and although I almost always break out the sleeveless wicking material shirts for this every so often I crave a bit of class (or maybe just variety). Sometimes having a collar is nice to avoid getting a burnt neck as well.
Got any favorite men's polo/button-down shirts for climbing in that are stretchy and breathe?

If you are a merino will fan, Icebreaker makes button down and collared shirts with the same materials. I have one but have never worn it in a technical fashion.....

I have some black diamond button down shirts that I have worn for climbing. They aren't stretchy, but they have a little extra material around the armpits to allow for full range of motion. My biggest complaint about them for climbing is that they never stay under my harness and they will bunch up around my gear loops and can make pulling gear or draws off of my harness a little more cumbersome. For breathe-ability you can always just unbutton them to show off that sweet beer gut... I mean abs... yeah abs....

anybody ever use the BD Aplenglow hoodie during really hot sunny conditions?
going to vegas in Aug for work, so planning a trip to red rock, besides being selective of routes that we shaded. thinking about clothing. I've got an OR astroman, but short sleeves

I find the best down climbing shirts are button; for going up, collared.

I've got an OR astroman, but short sleeves I have used the original Patagonia version. It's a comfortable shirt when sweating. My baselayer of choice for glacier travel. Worked pretty well in Tuolumne Meadows.

What's the fit like on the astroman? I just remembered i had a mountain hardwear polo thing i grabbed at a REI garage sale years ago but it was unflatteringly clingy around the gut. I picked up an arcteryx skyline shirt i love the cut of but it isn't really stretchy enough, plus I'd be scared of destroying it while actually climbing in it.
That issue with pulling the shirt out of the harness while reaching up is really annoying and the main reason i started this thread.

A white Exofficio Airstrip is my new go-to summer climbing shirt. Breathable, light, extended collar, sunproof, bourgeoisie.

I've got an OR astroman, but short sleeves I would be most concerned about shade. Entirely possible to climb all day in August out there, but you NEED to be in the shade. OR Astroman shirt is a good option. The Alpenglow will help cut some of the wind without being too stifling. Upper pitches in the shade can get pretty cold and windy, a windbreaker or long sleeve sunshirt are key to staying comfortable.

I love my BD alpenglow hoody! I pretty much live in it when I'm guiding, offers amazing sun protection while still being light enough to wear up into the mid 90s. Other than that I also regularly wear the Marmot Windshear SS shirt which is fully perforated and breaths super well.

I found a lightweight long sleeve hoody on amazon, cheap and don't mind that is is getting dirty and beat up climbing. Almost time for another...

I LOVE a good technical polo, preferably merino. Alas, my favorite one ever, the BD Deployment, was discontinued and now mine is starting to shred. I got an OR Sequence polo but I don't like it as much.

I wear my old dress shirts from work.........mostly so that I can tell everyone that I'm a "professional climber".
