Disclaimer: I realize that wool wash, tech wash, or a plain powder detergent (with no added bleach or fabric softener) are best for Merino wool technical garments.
My question is if doctor bronners is gentle enough (when thoughtfully deluted) to not strip the natural oils in the wool. Carrying doctor bronners on long treks or while living in a truck for an extended time is very convenient. Is it worth it?
I have washed wool with dr. B’s. It works, but can make wool loose it’s elasticity if you have really hard water. Make sure it’s diluted at least 8x (12x is better). Rinse really well, don’t wring out, just squeeze, and lay flat to dry. Rinse it more than you might think is needed.
I learned this from washing wool, and 12 year old dreadlocks. It’s a Castile soap, so it won’t rinse out well in hard water
