Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and a beginner/ kind of intermediate climber. My friends and I are going up to the Nine Corner Lakes area in June to a bouldering area that we found on here and we're hoping to rent a crash pad somewhere on the way from NYC. Does anyone have any advice about that?
All of us are fairly new climbers ranging from V2-V5 in the gym so if anyone has been to this area and has suggestions for camping, routes or anything, it would be great to hear from some more experienced people.
Nine Corners can be a little tricky to navigate your first visit - I'd recommend getting the new guidebook for bouldering in the adirondacks. There are a great number of climbs in the v2-v5 range. Depending on the winter there may be a ton of black flies and mosquitoes in June. It can totally vary. I've gone when it's been slightly colder and there are no bugs, but on a muggy day it will be a bit worse. Bring swimsuits since there's a great rope swing to swim in the lake.
The Cliffs area (Chillen, Nippin' out) has some great moderates, but the main area has a ton of great moderates as well.
Some of the city gyms, like Steep Rock and the Cliffs, will rent crash pads. There may be cheaper options outside the city, though, and perhaps closer to where you're going.

Bring plenty of bug spray, the black flies are gonna be out in force.
