Has anyone used or had experience with the Kong Panic System?  Is it worth spending 30$+ for this,  what is everyone’s thoughts?  I’m thinking about buying one and would like to hear your thoughts. . . . . . .

I have a simular device called the prog by kong for when I sport lead climb as I'm short. I just might stick to trad climbing as I feel more confident being able to chose when to place gear.

The Panic is great.

There are two lengths.

The shorter one is handy if you, yourself are also shorter.

It's not so long as to be inconvenient hanging from your harness, but still long enough to make those reachy clips.

The longer Panic is really useful for full-on, (near aid) sport climbing projecting.

But it's longer than you need for every day use.

A drawback is that you should switch out the panic for a regular draw after you climb high enough to reach the bolt.

Can be a hassle.

You can make your own stiffie draw as well.

There’s some good points in that article Fresh prince, but I’m still curious to hear more from someone who had used it though.

You can use the Franck Panic system instead. It has a couple advantages over the Kong:

  • No need to mess around switching it in/out if you need the draw used normally
  • No need to carry extra gear with you
  • No need to spend any money.

Basically, when you arrive at the insecure clipping stance:

  1. Make a couple extra moves, as the holds will surely get better as you get higher and higher above the draw.
  2. Find yourself stuck in an ackward chicken wing, fumbling the clip which is now below your only feet still bearing any weight, perched on a precariously small cristal
  3. Yell a couple time "Fuck man, I can't clip this shit, I can't clip this shit!"
  4. Alternate feet & clipping hands to no avail.
  5. Try clipping this shit a couple more times. Take in some slack even though you're above the draw and really shouldn't need any extra.
  6. Uselessly scream "take, take man I'm pumping out!" a couple times
  7. Take the fall
  8. Send your partner hanging that draw and then asked to keep the 4th clipped in for your next attempt.

A great response to this, especially since I’ve been there as well.....

24k gold right there! Thank you. That turned around my whole day.

Franck! Is your partner's name Brad? I think I've seen a video of you using the same technique while bouldering.

(That was probably a bit mean. But I thank those guys in the video for being such good sport and not pulling the video!)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
