I've had my G2SM's for about three years now, maybe a little less. I have some pretty bad arch pain when I'm walking in them. I think it's due to the fact that they are a very hard sole boot without much cushion (i don't really have this issue in my running shoes (asics). So I am considering a cushioned insert. Anyone have any experience with these?
Are you using the stock insoles? If so that’s your problem. Those things offer zero support, and strike me as being designed to be used for trying on and thrown out after purchase. When I used to work retail I always recommend that you get a good pair of insoles. Supetfeet is the brand I usually use because of the options. Choices for amount of support and thickness of the insole. Most retailers carry a few try on options. I’d check those out first. The Dr. schollers cushioned insoles for “foot fatigue” are kind of garbage. Don’t buy anything at a pharmacy/convenience store.
I'd just be cautious about the fit. I use Superfeet in all my approach shoes, trail runners, hiking boots but not my mountaineering boots. They are definitely comfortable and add arch support but they are fairly voluminous especially in the heel/instep - in my rigid mountaineering boots I feel they alter the fit too much, even the thinner Carbons. Makes my boots tight and my feet get cold. Try them though, they might work better for you and maybe the G2's are roomier than my boots. You could also try just the little stick-on arch support inserts from the pharmacy or Amazon if you find the Superfeet too big.
