Bus from Mty airport to hidalgo (Potrero)
|
Anyone have experience flying into mty and catching a bus to Hidalgo. I know pasada runs a pickup for 35 bucks but I’d much prefer a less expensive option. Looks like theres a bus that does it from what I see online but cannot find info as to where the bus station is in relation to the airport. Any info is appreciated cheers |

I did this once several years ago, so not sure if the information is still current, but I found it all on-line so you probably can, too. The airport is quite a ways from the Monterrey bus depot, and there was no public bus service. There was a private bus that cost about $8 dollars, but it brought us into the old part of town, where we had to catch a cab to the bus terminal, which was about $3. It would have been easier and maybe about the same price to just get a cab from the airport. From Monterrey, you get the "La Mina" bus to Hidalgo, it's about an hour ride and cost less than $2. You buy a ticket in the very long line of different bus company desks, then go through a tunnel under the first row of gates to another row of gates that's in the center of the bus parking lot. The busses run about hourly, and pretty late into the night. From the terminal in Hidalgo, it's about maybe a 2 mile walk to the canyon. Supposedly there's a cab in town, but I never saw it. Sometimes people will pick you up en route. The other option, which I've done a bunch of times, is to fly into San Antonio and take the Greyhound or a Mexican company to Monterrey, and from there to Hidalgo. It's about 6 hours from San Antonio to Monterrey by bus, and I've been able to find pretty cheap fares to San Antonio. Hope that helps, Good luck on the trip! |

Great info! Appreciate it. Found most of the info online was just having trouble finding the link from the airport to the bus station, saw something that sounded like a cab to the bus station is 25$ so glad to know hear that there should be another option when I arrive. Thanks again |

PSA: The Mina bus is not operating now. The bus station in Hidalgo is closed. There is a bus you can take from Monterrey but it loads outside of the Central Station. Look for Transpais outside of the station, they also load at Sendero Metro Station and it's Ruta 317 they operate from 5am to 11pm and cost 13 pesos. They drop you off in the town center (close to the bus station). Phone: +528182390390 This is just for getting from the central station to Hidalgo. It's going to take you several hours and at the end you have a decent little walk. Or you just use a shuttle service. Mine is potrerochico.com/shuttle/ and cost $40USD and we'll stop at the grocery store for you. |

I’m easily at 1k bus rides in MX and Central America. Planning ahead helps, but being very flexible, and speaking some Spanish helps way more. You probably won’t get good, real, up-to-date info, until you get your feet on the ground and talk to some locals. Strikes, protests, floods, washouts, mechanical failures, schedule changes all come in to play, and as far as I can tell, in 20+ years of traveling down there, the only reliable way to find out what is going on is to engage the locals. And be prepared to bivouac, on the bus, on the side of the road, in a hostel, or if you are lucky, in an actual hotel. |
