I’m in the market for new shoes and saw that Black Diamond has come out with a new line of shoes. Does anyone know how their new shoes are? The momentum’s are cheap but I’m worried about the quality and how they preform outdoors since they seem like a gym shoe. Please weigh in if you have an opinion!

  • I have done 5 indoor climbs up to 5.11 in them so I can't really give a review. I haven't used them outdoors but I can already tell they are pretty good, I like them more than the evolv defy or the scarpa force v. I wouldn't put them up against more high performance models, but they are very comfy and I feel they climb great considering the type of shoe they are. Also the knit upper is more breathable than any shoe I've ever used.

  1. I have a pair of the momentums and the aspects. I am happy with them both. The momentums I just use as a comfortable gym shoe and the are great for that. The edge fairly well and smear ok. They are not good for overhanging stuff though. They will not compete with my miuras or solutions, but they are way cheaper and comfy. I have never used them outside.
  2. I love the aspects. They are a great crack shoe, and they edge and smear well. They are simple and do the job. I like the leather over the laces on the toe. They did hurt for a week or two during break-in but now they fit great. I had to go a 1/2 size up from what I thought I should. I think they would compete with tc pros, but it would be nice to have some ankle padding.

Thank you for sharing your experience!
