Ummm...I'm a vegan.  Guess I should re-think my climbing plans.

Alot of non Vegans have died of HAPE too. Pretry sure it has more to do with altitude than diet.

Just wondering why it's News if published a year and a half ago.

I will make 3 points:

  1. There is a lot of factors that lead to HAPE.  Malnutrition can play a big role - you'd hope that she would have had good enough sense and a good enough operator to prevent that though.
  2. I only know one person who has literally collapsed while climbing at high altitude, and they were vegan.  She was definitely not eating properly and it clearly hindered her acclimatization.  The operator of that expedition was highly reputable, but there is only so much hand holding that they can do.
  3. Vegans can climb big mountains; however, it often requires more complicated food logistics when most other people are not following vegan diets.  If those food logistics fail, not eating properly and still ascending is no different than any other climber not eating and still ascending, which is a terrible idea.

I think I see the problem here.  In American English we spell that B-A-I-T.  "News", unfortunately, means charged click bait like this that was published RECENTLY.  Easy mistake to make.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
