Currently looking at these models. They all seem to use a similar sole (something similar to a modern 3/4 shank or "flexible" for a mountaineering boot) with varying levels of insulation. The Rapace is marked as the most hiking boot like but Im not sure they are indeed the same stiffness. The Vultur and the Raven 2 appear to be very similar with the Vultur being a full leather upper? As for the Crow...I really dont know how this shoe fits into the line. It seems to be full synthetic and by looks alone it appears similar to the Rapace? It may be the lower end of the spectrum as the Rapace has a more durable upper. Does Salewa have lasts or some way to compare the fit? Anybody whos tried them - are they wide, high volume, or low or somewhere in between?

I bought a pair of the Rapace this summer. Used them on a 5 day Picket Range outing and they worked very well for hiking/scrambling. Not as good of a climber as the Scarpa Rebel series or Charmoz for that matter but the fit is much better for me. Wide forefoot and high arch. I'd guess they are a higher volume last. 5 days of rough travel with a heavy pack in hot weather and no heel blisters for me. I was able to get up some mid-5th rock in them and they held my rigid (semi auto) crampons fine. I did try on the Raven as well and it was much stiffer out of the box, probably due to the construction of the upper. I'd find somewhere to try these on and compare them.

I have the Crows. Salewa told me that the Raven 2 is the same boot but taller and with more leather on the tongue. Don't think either is insulated. I have a narrow, low volume foot with a biggish heel. I find the toes to be roomy, width is perfect and heel is adequate, it could be tighter above the heel cup at the achilles. Volume is good for me too, I suspect they will work well for someone with a medium volume foot as I have the laces tight. I use a low volume insole with these as well. I've used them for some very long summer mountaineering days and found them to be comfortable. I would think they're around a 3/4 shank but with a fair amount of rocker to make long approaches comfortable. There is no front welt so it doesn't take full auto crampons. The Crows and Ravens are similar to the older red Trangos in use; a lightweight summer rock and snow boot.

Sounds like then in order of stiffest / aggressive to less stiff / approach comfortable it goes in this order: Vultur, Raven 2, Crow, Rapace. I really should try these on... what I really want is warmer Rapace! Size up with thick socks maybe?

Thinking about getting the Vultur Vertical (the one with a toe welt) for ice climbing, would it be warm enough? Intend to use in Canadian Rockies and California.

Updating this thread: I just talked to Salewa's US office. They told me: Rapace~Crow in most ways. The Rapace is obviously leather, but the stiffness should be roughly the same. The Raven 2 is a bit stiffer in both cuff (due to height) and sole than the Crow. (This seems to somewhat contradict what Salewa told Beean.) The Vulture is another incremental step up (maybe due to the leather). The Vulture Vertical is obviously a different class of boot.

I use Raven, Crow, Rapace and Mountain trainer...Salewa convert! Rapace the go to boot for most hill/mountain days...from scrambling, via ferrata to Andean treks to walking the dog....most comfortable and confidence inspiring boot I have ever used. Sadly the upper was not durable and after 2 years a hole appeared on both boots at the toe crease area above the rubber rand...this was a 2016 model...now changed. Salewa replaced these without question....great service....but with the Raven ( my choice) as I already have Crow. Raven as said above, is a 4 season boot, more robust and technically designed for snow/ice and rugged mountain use; great fit(true of all Salewa boots...for me!). The Crows are lighter, more durable and stiffer than Rapace. My previous boots were/are Scarpa...Freney XT, Manta ,Charmoz and Cristallo....just to give some context. do feel Scarpa last longer...better build quality. Salewa better value for money, comfort and dexterity. got to be personal though!?
