I have been climbing on/off for the past three years and I have always had a twinge in my left wrist, especially after a hard day of climbing, but recently it seems to be getting worse.
The pain is in the center of my wrist and feels like I've dislocated it though I don't believe that to be the cause. It tends to flare up if I've been climbing a route with a lot of crimps or pinches, especially if the hold for some reason forces most of my weight to the left. The pain also tends to come back if I've been doing repetitive motions; it hurts to bend my wrist in any direction, put weight on it, or pick anything heavier than 5 lbs up. I've been to a Dr. and she listened for about a second before interrupting me and saying it sounded like I had arthritis (I'm a 21 yr old female, though I know it is possible at any age but unlikely) and gave me an Rx for pain meds and told me to ice it when it hurts. I guess what I'm trying to ask is if anyone has had any similar issues and what they did for it? Or any ideas as to what it might be? I am planning on going to another Dr. but I wanted to ask around anyways.
Thanks and happy sending!

It is best to see someone who is a certified hand specialist and not just an MD.An x-ray should show possible arthritis.MRI would show soft tissue injuries.
I have had two surgery's on the same wrist for a TFCC tear six years apart.
The wrist is a complicated joint and I got the run around for a couple of months before finally getting a diagnosis on what the problem was.
I had some similar sounding issues earlier this year. I went and saw a sports physician and had an ultrasound done on my wrist. They told me I had intersection syndrome (tenosynovitis). Basically my tendons attached to my thumb and fingers got over stretched where they cross each other at the wrist. Wasn't real painful but enough to make me not want to push things too hard and when I twisted my wrist, if i held my hand on my forearm I could feel the tendons rubbing together. I had to rest it for about a month as well as some anti-inflammatory cream and a thumb stabilizing wrist brace. May not be what you have but sounded similar. Good luck, hope its something that doesn't keep you down for too long.
