I am going to be climbing the next couple weeks around Asheville NC.  I have a topper on my truck and I am looking for a good spot to set up camp. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.  I will be climbing Rumbling Bald and that area first. I don't mind a little drive because I know there is no camping at the Bald.

If you're climbing the Bald, there's a campground, hitching post campground or something like that around Lake Lure that is really close and a lot of people use. Linville gorge is about an hour and half north of there.

There are some pretty nice paid camping options +/- 45 minutes around Asheville. In particular, The Bike Farm in Pisgah National Forest (close to Looking Glass) has beautiful, quiet campsites with hot showers; for plush retreats with friends, it's not too expensive when you split the costs of a shared forest campsite. Looking Glass also has some not-so-private but rather convenient primitive camping options. I have also had good luck with just car camping on side roads around the area when I wanted a free and easy option. Near Rumbling Bald, like Jordan said, Lake Lure is very close and should afford you some options. It just depends where all you plan to climb. Linville is a bit of a drive from Asheville.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
