I was out there for two weekends in June, and even though it was hot, there were a good number of people camping. There were still open spaces though.
Double check the Gorge's schedule too. On one of the nights we had the unfortunate experience of having some incredibly obnoxious concert-goers playing loud music and screaming until about 6am.
Vantage camping scene when there's a concewrt at the Gorge!

that area is generally packed like sardines whenever the weather is anything close to climbable. plan on teen boys butchering bob dylan songs with poorly tuned guitars well into the night...
There's nothing quite like waking up to a Bon Iver song in the back of a sprinter van as the first rays of sunlight paint a warm golden tone on the iconic skyline of the feathers. Some would call it the of Torres del Paine of Eastern Washington, but I'm not sure I'd go that far.

There is plenty of room.......however dont expect any privacy. Go during the week and it can be a peaceful and great experience. Go on the weekend and expect a shit show unfortunatley.
The flattest spots are always full (or have a sprinter parked on top of them )
Bring some padding or sleep in the car.
Also, if you wake up early, you're pretty much guaranteed to be first at whatever route you want. The vantage crowd starts late. By 11am, all the good choss has been claimed.
