Superfeet Question

I've got a pair of yellow sportiva trangos that are just a tad to big even with mountaineering socks, and I know adding superfeet will reduce the volume in the boot a bit.

I cant figure out though which colors are the thickest/thinnest and there are so many styles. What do you guys use?

If you're using them in the winter, I'd highly recommend the RedHot Superfeet, highest volume with a reflective coating to help keep your feet (marginally) warmer..  Otherwise, I believe green is the equivalent volume to the RedHot, and Superfeet generally recommends green for boots.

Thanks! Thats kinda what I had picked up searching the forums.

i was at a climbing shop a couple months ago and they had green superfeet with a wool top surface.  those looked pretty sweet.  you could also probably put a really cheap dr scholls footbed under the normal footbed to fill out the volume a bit.

I use greens. Here's another important Superfeet tip: Don't go by the size closest to your foot size. Go for the size that gets the arch into the right place. For example, I'm a size 10 shoe but like slightly larger Superfeet greens because of where that arch hits me. You're going to trim the toe end of the insole, anyway, so you can always size up a bit and trim them down. Generally worth trying to find someone qualified to help you assess the right insole in a brick and mortar store before you make any big decisions about them. REI staff was helpful to me the first time.

What Andrew said on sizing is super important. Don't go with the size of your shoe unless you know that the position of your arch matches. I'd add that you should find the insole that fits your foot best based on shape, not just thickness/volume. If you need to take up additional volume, use bondtex shims under the insole (you can get these from any bootfitter).

Note for goretex footwear you want a superfeet insole with a smooth bottom, the green and gray (merino covered green) fit this bill. I had blue pair for some hiking boots, sharp rib cut into and THROUGH the gore membrane.

I'd highly suggest looking at sole or sidas brand insoles also. They will heat mold to your particular foot and arch, much better fit than the "one size fits a couple" arch of superfeet. I have the red sole insoles in my scarpa rebel pros, they are similar in thickness to green superfeet. Their blue insole takes up even more volume. I use blue SIDAS insoles in my dynafit TLT6 boots, where I wanted less volume.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
