Scarpa Boot Sizing

I have a 3 season mountaineering boot (Scarpa Charmoz, size 41) that fits perfectly and is very comfortable. For winter mountaineering I bought a pair of LS Nepal Evo's based on fit and comparison to the scarpa summit (size 40.5, the LS fit better).

My friend traded me his Scarpa Freney XT for some climbing gear, (new, size 41) and the boot feels massive on my foot. My heel moved around like it wasn't laced (even though it was laced tight). It felt like a totally different boot...

Has anyone else experienced inconsistent Scarpa boot sizing? I thought a 41 in one model would be the same size as 41 in another model. Any comments on what I could do, besides selling?

Thanks in advance!

Charmoz pro after 2014 are built on a different last. They have been going to the NAG last from the rebel line. Much snugger.

The charmoz I have are circa 2012

Well then I have absolutely no idea. I can say that sizing between rebel carbon, rebel pro, and the last gen phantom 6000 (zip up the center) was all similar.

Personally I love Scarpas, but they've always been known for a bit of heel lift.

As far as inconsistencies I've worn pretty much every boot Scarpas made and the only one that I remember being different was the phantoms.

Yes it's heel lift that I am getting. I was surprised because my charmoz doesn't have heel lift, but the Freney XT does

yeah unfortunately it's a boot that doesn't always work for everyone. For me I can't wear most La Sportiva lasts because the toe box is to narrow. Except for the Nepals which fit more like a Scarpa.

Have you checked out SizeSquirrel?

Admittedly, many more rock climbing shoes than mountaineering boots. But this is the exact problem I was trying to solve.

I'll add the Freney to the site soon, since it is missing from the site.

I can't remember if they are on the same last, but I have the Rebel Pro, Mont Blanc Pro, and Phantom Tech all in the same size and they all fit me quite well.

Toss a SuperFeet footbed in there - that will take up some of the room and probably eliminate the heal lift.

I have SCARPA Freney XTs also and I put a thin (1/8" or so) layer of dense foam under the stock liner to take up some room. It makes a huge difference for me, and provides some much-appreciated underfoot insulation.

Generally speaking, LaSpo boots have a narrower heel than Scarpas. I suspect that you'll get the same effect from the Phantom Guides in terms of heel lift. If LaSpo boots fit you well, go with them. If you're set on using Scarpas, give the Rebels a try, they supposedly have a narrower fit (havnt used them myself so maybe others can chime in, but I do prefer LaSpo for my narrow-heeled feet).

I have a pair of Charmoz and I have a bit of a challenge with these boots. I love the build and stability of them. I use them hunting in the back country. However I am getting a bit of heel lift but the toe box is way too narrow. It wears blisters on my big and little toe. I started with a thick high impact foot bed from Sole' and I could wear them. They hurt as if I was wearing a super cheap sock with a seam across the top of my toes. I replaced it with a thin footbed from Sole' and that helped but didn't solve it. There are a ton of features on this boot that I love so I'd love to stay with the Scarpa brand, however I have to find something that has a larger toe box width. Any ideas?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
