New to North Carolina, Looking for climbing partners

Where are you going to be climbing? I would love to join if you don't mind. |

Yo, looks like Taylor could use some good vibes from us: |

Gotta assume this is the same as the fall reported on the 16th - lowered off the end of the rope on Quaker State. Wish Taylor all the best. https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/112830510/moores-accident-416 We were there on the 13th and a bunch of first responders brought out an injured boulderer. I bumped into a paramedic the next day (while we were headed to Quaker State, no less) and he said the boulderer worked with him at the hospital. Sounds like Moore's has been getting more than its share of accidents lately. * Edit - just realized the article explicitly says the accident was Thursday. My bad. * |

Hoping for a speedy recovery! |

Emmett Lyman wrote: Emmett you're totally right -- the accident happened on Easter Sunday. They only just released his name today (Thursday) and he's still in the hospital apparently. That's exactly the accident that happened. |

Hello to everyone, I just saw the get well wishes in the thread! They are very much appreciated. I ended up with a pretty serous bump on the head and a fractured heel and am still working my way back to 100% Certainly no fun. Further injuries would be to the ego for landing in the Winston-Salem paper for something like this (I had no idea until now). Lot to yack about concerning the accident but it came down to a quick (and poor) decision to tie in on a bight and locker while cleaning after a random rain storm popped up. The bight resulted in the rope being too short and there was no safety knot tied at the end. I have no good excuse. I had rappeled from the same anchors three times earlier that day and knew how much rope was required, but in my haste I made a choice and didn't stop to double check the system. And that is my take away from this incident. Climbing is obviously a risky endeavor, but so much of the risk can be mitigated with a quick second look at your practices. So please ya'll, stay safe out there and always, always, always take the moment to check with your partner that knots are solid, devices are loaded correctly, and shoes are on the right feet.
