Van/truck camping near Red Rock
|
I'm heading down to Red Rock in a couple days and will be camping out of my van. If the campground is full, I might need to head elsewhere. It looks like most of the land in the area is managed by the Fish and Wildlife Service. There are lots of pullouts outside of the loop road that look good for spending a couple nights. Does anyone know the local regulations or have experience in the area? |

The whole foods that is a 20 minute drive at most from Red Rock Canyon has free wifi that extends into the parking lot even and is in a good neighborhood. Thats been the best spot i've found. |
|
Most of the land is owned by the BLM. Just be aware, RR is minutes from 2 million people, so regulations are pretty much no camping within 25 minutes of RR outside designated areas (the campground). Lovell canyon or in town are the next best options if you want to follow the rules. |

I have spent the night on the side of Calico Basin Road. Not great, but there is a decent pull off or two that you might be able to swing for a night. |
|
Ah yeah you're right it's BLM, not FWS. Misread the map. |

Yeah, camping near private property seems like a bad idea. |

It will be raining this weekend... Please dont climb on wet sandstone |

I have been watching the forecast...doesn't actually look all that bad at the moment. I'll change my plans if it rains of course. |

I usually ended up back out at the walmart in my van if the campground was full, but on a couple occasions I would talk to someone with a spot and only 1 car and offer to pay their camping if they let us park with them and sleep. Most people were happy to oblige. |

It doesn't look like there will be a lot of precipitation, but there may be enough to put sandstone out of the question.Ah thanks for the info. Winter means longer dry time for sandstone, yes? I've read 3 days or so depending on amount of rain and sun. |
