Please be outside of the gate at Pinnacle Peak Park prior to park closing

City staff has requested that climbers comply with the posted park closure hours at Pinnacle Peak Park. This “hard” closure requirement was part of the negotiated agreement between climbers and the City of Scottsdale that allowed Pinnacle Peak Park to open and that rock climbing can continue.

Under the closure requirements, all users, including rock climbers, MUST be outside of the gates. It doesn’t matter where you parked. If you are “inside” the gate at park closure, which adjusts seasonally, you are “trespassing”. There is a good chance that you will be confronted by Scottsdale police and cited. The security guards at nearby housing developments have routinely been calling the police if they see anyone “inside the gate.” Last week a police officer told Park staff that this was his 9th citation to climbers this year.

Quite a few climbers have experienced this unpleasantness. There are NO valid excuses. Therefore, City staff recommends wrapping up you climbing and being on the trail back to the parking lot and outside the gate well in advance of the closing. It will take at least 20 minutes from Pinnacle Peak crags and 30 minutes from Y-Crack and Cactus Flower crags.

The park closes at specific times what vary with sunset and can be found here - scottsdaleaz.gov/Assets/Sco…
