Ankle Overuse?

A week after climbing in Indian creek I was walking at work when my ankle decided it was quite injured. This happened 4 days ago and since I have been resting the ankle (walking carefully at home and using a cane otherwise). During the week, in between climbing and the injury, I was able to have good gym workouts (primarily bouldering). The only pain from climbing I remember having was trying to force the moves at the top of Family Home Night (splitter .75" section). The pain was specifically in my ankle as I tried to get through the section. After climbing I had no pain in the hike down.

Hopefully that's not too confusing.
TLDR: tried forcing .75" foot jams. 1 week later lots of ankle pain. Sudden onset of pain.

Basically I am wondering if you fine folks think this is an overuse injury or if in forcing those jams I caused real damage, which resulted in something tearing randomly a week later.

In terms of foot jamming I had racked up a measily 20 climbs at Indian creek In a 3 week period.

What's your history of injuries this same ankle? (Sprains, everything)

Let it heal! Tendon & ligament issues can last forever if you don't let them heal properly.

Completely agree! I jacked up my ankle 3 or 4 times this fall bc once it felt good enough to climb on again, it wasn't fully healed, and it would just taco all over again.

Just jam it in a ski boot for the winter and you'll be fine come spring.

+2 to the above

I've been doing exercises from this link: gmb.io/feet/ for my ankles and have been feeling like they are much stronger, more flexible, and is helping to break down the scar tissue... I also get massages and ART (active release technique) for my ankles and other injuries...

Stretch/strengthen your calves/posterior chain also, that will take some strain off your ankles.

Good luck.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
