We are headed to Sedona area next week after leaving Cochise. Looks like lots of the campgrounds are closed, but I saw that Manzanita campground is open. Is this the best camping venue for Sedona climbing or are there better ones?

Your tips are appreciated!

The camping scene in Sedona leaves a lot to be desired unfortunately. Most of the campgrounds aren't very nice and way overpriced. There are some decent at-large car camping sites but they're few and far between and the better ones require a high clearance vehicle. I'm not sure what the "official" USFS stance on at-large camping is but its probably best not to leave a camp setup during the day. There are some cool spots along Dry Creek Rd(dirt), Schnebly Hill Rd, and out Boynton Canyon Rd. PM me if you want more specific beta. Should be nice conditions for Sedona though. Strangely (or maybe not so anymore) its been too hot the last few winters for a lot of the sunny routes.

You can camp for free south of the Village of Oak Creek off Beaverhead Flats. A bit of a ways from the action but certainly warmer than Oak Creek Canyon's paid sites.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
