Textile Engineering in Climbing Ropes

I'm interested in learning more about the science behind rope design and development, but I can't seem to find any reputable articles on the topic. Specifically, I'm trying to find more about the chemical and engineering structural design aspects and their impact on the rope's properties. Thanks

I just googled "cordage specifications" and got the Cordage Institute (which boasts publications), among a pile of other stuff, that looks to be technically oriented.
