Partially torn Quad Tendon (how possible is recovery without surgery)?

I’m so glad I found this forum. I am 54 (female) about 210 lbs. I had a complete tear on my quad tendon just slipping on the stairs at home. I slipped on Aug 2nd and delayed the MRI for 2 weeks thinking it would get better on its own. I had surgery on August 19th and now I’m working on 50 degree bend 5 weeks post surgery.  Last appt to Ortho 3 weeks post surgery had me starting the  30 degree bend. Week 4 added another 10 degrees and it was tough!!  Can’t do the 50 bend yet but I just keep practicing everyday. I sleep with the immobilizer brace at 0 which is super hard because I’m a stomach sleeper. I try to work on my bends most of the day. I miss getting out driving more than anything.

Hi all. I've been shadow following yall as I'm not a climber or anything like it. But I do have a partially torn quad. I'm a70 yo grandma who has had knock knees all my life. A year ago I decided to start my adventure and had my first TKR, mostly to straighten my left leg first, 9/2020. All going well 6 weeks and fell in a parking lot and fractured my left femoral neck hip bone. Fortunately my ortho Dr was on call. 3 screws later and 6 weeks of no weight bearing, back on track. Feb '21 I had my right TKR done. Beautifully straight legs. 4 weeks I fell again squarely on my new knee on the wooden deck. I was able to pull myself up into a chair and recover enough to go back inside . I was able walk with the walker and thought I'd dodged a bullet. A week later in PT my therapist noticed the dent  above my knee and my inability of lifting the leg at all. She arranged an app next day with my Dr and after XRAY and exam, put me in a fixed brace for 24 /7. Ultrasound and MRI could not verify anything due to TKR. But because of improvement in lifting leg no surgery. He believed it was probably a partial quad muscle tear and sewing anything wouldn't work. So I'm on my 4th week in the brace and 1 crutch. Followup is next week. PT is not in the cards so I am just doing home exercises and working on my ROM. I'm at 97 degrees on my own which I guess it's good. But I want to get moving. Hopefully the brace will come off soon and real PT STARTS. Thanks for the uplifting stories. Anyone heard that the clamp during TKR surgery weakens the quad enough to cause the weakness?

I don’t know if this forum is still being looked at but I have a problem. So, I have no idea when I tore my quad tendon but apparently it’s 50-75% torn. I fell a couple times this year and I workout with weights so it could have torn during a fall or doing squats or something. Either way, I know it’s been 3 months since I initially went to my orthopedic. He thought maybe I tore meniscus but I told him I never had swelling or sudden pain. I can walk on my leg, I can do weighted leg extensions and leg raises. I ONLY feel pain when I apply direct pressure or when my knee is bent. Walking up and downstairs is basically hell and driving can be really painful. I drove 20 miles one day and was on the verge of tears. I had to get out the car, stretch my legs and I was fine. I drove 30 miles another day and barely felt anything.

My orthopedic recommends surgery because A. We don’t know exactly how or when I tore it and B. It’s 50-75% torn and I initially went to him back in July AFTER the pain with the stairs started happening everyday, I have a 2 flights of stairs I need to walk up to get to my bedroom.

Im reading through all the comments on  this forum and I don’t think I fit in. I had zero swelling, I do sumo squats so my knees don’t bend as much and I can leg extend with weight. I never had swelling and I have no idea how long it’s been torn. I believe I tore it a while back and because I thought it was arthritis, I modified my workouts and continued my life. I know when my body is inflamed, I get stricter with my diet and the arthritis calms down. I started to realize a couple months ago that the pain wasn’t going away. I know for a fact I went from pain here and there to now, daily discomfort/ pain when my knee it bent.

I’m terrified of surgery!!! This will be my first surgery and I’m 32. I have MS so I can’t stay laid up for too long, if I do then my body locks up on me and it can be physically painful. The doctor says he wants me up and walking after surgery which I know is a good thing but I’m scared of the pain.

What do guys think I should do? Get another opinion? Just get the surgery? Get a prp and just do physical therapy?

My surgery is scheduled for the 10/14/21. Doctor initially scheduled it a week after getting the MRI but I needed time to get things in order since the torn tendon is on my right leg which means. NO DRIVING!!!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
