Anyone know of any decent free camping areas near the north or east end of the lake? I'm picking someone up at the Reno airport around midnight next Sunday and was hoping to find someplace ahead of time, not too far from there to camp.

approx. 30 mins from the airport but its $20. if it is really about the money I think if you keep driving along the road you'll find a spot where you can stay for a night.

good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. We're on a tight budget so I'd rather not pay for a spot, but if that's all we can find I will.

If you look at the Tahoe National Forest Website you will find the only dispersed camping (free) is in the Baltimore Lake area. Technically not allowed on the Big Chief road but people do it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
