Winston-Salem climbing locations?
|
My daughter will be going to college in Winson-Salem this fall, and we're wondering if there are any gyms or crags close (like 30 mins). Also if anyone knows whether Wake Forest has any indoor walls? |
|
Pilot Mountain is super close, free, and accessible. There's plenty of toprope and sport. Check out climbpilotnc.us/ for a very detailed (maybe too detailed) guide. MP is also good. The new piedmont guidebook includes Pilot as well and features many pictures. |

Pilot, Moore's and Sauratown (in the winter) are all close to Winston. As suggested, pick up the NC Piedmont guide for all the info you need. Wake forest is rebuilding their wall, I believe, but they have a pretty active outdoor rec club and I'm sure she will be able to find some partners. |

Thanks for the info, I'll pass it along for sure. She's just getting started so top rope would be right up her alley for now. |

Winston-Salem is a great location for climbing. Lots of options within 30 mins and even more within 2 hours. The Outdoor Pursuits club is great at Wake. They are building a new gym and it should be done sometime next year, i believe. Until then there isnt really a good option for gym climbing nearby but the Wake group gets out pretty often. |

Not a huge gym but this one is in greensboro on the winston-salem side. |

I did my first leads as a Wake student in the early 80's at Moore's. Wake is a fantastic school, and I have great memories of that part of the world. |

Moore's is amazing. It has incredible climbing at 5.5 and 5.6 for new people. |
