Winston-Salem climbing locations?

My daughter will be going to college in Winson-Salem this fall, and we're wondering if there are any gyms or crags close (like 30 mins). Also if anyone knows whether Wake Forest has any indoor walls?
Thanks.

Pilot Mountain is super close, free, and accessible. There's plenty of toprope and sport. Check out climbpilotnc.us/ for a very detailed (maybe too detailed) guide. MP is also good. The new piedmont guidebook includes Pilot as well and features many pictures.

Pilot, Moore's and Sauratown (in the winter) are all close to Winston. As suggested, pick up the NC Piedmont guide for all the info you need. Wake forest is rebuilding their wall, I believe, but they have a pretty active outdoor rec club and I'm sure she will be able to find some partners.

Thanks for the info, I'll pass it along for sure. She's just getting started so top rope would be right up her alley for now.

Winston-Salem is a great location for climbing. Lots of options within 30 mins and even more within 2 hours. The Outdoor Pursuits club is great at Wake. They are building a new gym and it should be done sometime next year, i believe. Until then there isnt really a good option for gym climbing nearby but the Wake group gets out pretty often.

I did my first leads as a Wake student in the early 80's at Moore's. Wake is a fantastic school, and I have great memories of that part of the world.

Moore's is amazing. It has incredible climbing at 5.5 and 5.6 for new people.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
