Solo Canyoneering in Moab area.

I know the number one rule is never go alone, but that's what I'm doing anyway. I've mastered most of the Wasatch and am headed down to Moab in a couple weeks for a personal photography journey and was wondering if there were any feasible places to explore solo. I'm bringing rope and climbing gear and camping gear, so overnight isn't out of the question. I just don't know the Moab area that well. If anyone has a good place to go to get away and take back some awesome photos it would be greatly appreciated.

This is closer to Hanksville, but I thought Shenanigans was fun/scenic: canyoneeringusa.com/utah/no…

Note the warning about body size. The squeeze section is longish.

I have some photos starting here.

There is some stuff in arches, some stuff on river road. Start some digging to find more info.

Oh, and far better to ask on the Bogley.com canyoneering forum.

U-Turn in Arches is a good one to do solo. It's not a slot canyon, but it's a fun adventure with a couple of rappels. Elephant Butte is also a fun adventure. It's the highest point in Arches and requires one rappel on the ascent and another on the descent. I've done both of those solo.

+1 for Elaphant's Butte. Should be no problem solo although route finding might be tough. I went with someone who had done it recently but remember thinking it would be tricky to navigate first time if I was alone.

Elephant butte looks pretty sweet, I might have to check that out while I'm down there. Thanks for all your input.

Check out ropewiki.com for a list of canyons. Use the interactive map and its amazing how many routes you'll find near you.

I'd stay away from Pleiades and SGR if solo.

Of the rest near Moab, Entrajo, Dragonfly, Elephant Butte (mixed peak scrambling and canyoneering), and Lost and Found (requires a lengthier drive) are the best.

A few more one-rap wonders are easy to combine with the above in a day.

The stuff out by Hanksville (few hours away) is indeed much better.

Man, you got me looking at SGR now and it looks so badass.

I would highly recommend Pleiades even if solo, especially if it is scorching hot (as it looks like it will be).

It is run commercially and thus has excellent anchors for every rappel. It only requires 40m of rope as well if you happen to have something <60m.

Wasn't there a movie about this?

Hiked out to Pleiades recently. The water level was too high to run! Be careful, water levels might have dropped, but it's a serious outing at high water.

Thanks for the lookout on Pleiades, I have a friend meeting me down there and was debating on checking it out. Definitely going to check out the Elephant I think while I'm wandering around arches, then maybe dropping down Morning Glory because that looks like some fun shit right there.
