Hungry and curious. What are your go-to foods for climbing days? Breakfast: - Double-tortilla breakfast burrito with eggs, sausage, ham, potatoes, pepper jack, jalapenos, chives, whipped cream cheese, sour cream, refried beans, garlic, hot sauce du jour. I fry the tortilla in bacon grease to a deep golden brown. On multipitch or Creek days, I make an extra for my partner for the drive, plus another for the drive home. Singlepitch: - Banana - Gummy worms - Brownies - Can of chicken noodle soup - Salt and vinegar kettle chips (in a straight-to-mouth ziploc bag so as to prevent greased hands. But on polished limestone, who cares?) - Mustard sardines (torrid conditions only) - Thermos of herbal tea with honey (frigid conditions) - Dark chocolate chips sprinkled in sea salt (frigid) Multipitch: - Slim Jims - String cheese - Gummy worms - Tailwind (best electrolyte powder I've had. Durango company, too). Snacks at the Car: - Kosher whole dill pickles - Cool Ranch Doritos with Sriracha sauce and jalapenos - TruMoo chocolate milk Car Camping: - Frozen mozzarella sticks with ranch, fried in bacon grease on a cast iron skillet. Wrap in bacon for extra love.

For snacks in the pack, my favourites are Honey Stinger waffles and Kind bars. Apples too. Breakfast is almost always a bowl of cereal. It's the equivalent of coffee for me; I'll feel weird all day if I don't have it. Favourites are Vector, Alpen (muesli), or granola.

I do breakfast similar to yours without the tortilla. Basically sweet potato hash, with peppers and a couple eggs cracked on top when its almost done. Single pitch - whatever is lying around, usually in the form of a pb&j. multipitch - samsies, but with honey packets and some sort of candy in a pocket, lots of water, summit beer to split with partner. car drink is almost always gatorade.

Brekkie: muesli/granola, yogurt, fruit 1qt h2o with salt and lemon. Poor mans Gatorade. Lunch: PB+J (or some variation), apple Snacks: trail mix ( I make my own and it is the shit: Cashews, dark chocolate chips, wasabi peas, jumbo flame raisins and those red spicy Japanese rice cracker things. nuts for fat and protein, sugar for quick energy, salt to help metabolize water and spicy for delicious). Kind bars are good. Camp Dinner: pasta with tomato, garlic, tinned fish, lemon and herbs.

@Prest-O: Those Stinger waffles are baller. Slim profile lends itself well to shirt pockets. Now they just need to make a freeze-dried ice cream sandwich version out of them. When I typed up my list at the beginning of my shift (as a professional MP poster, of course), I was greatly anticipating the dinner that I had brought, spicy crock-pot chili. To my horror, when I thawed the tupperware, I found that I had grabbed not a frozen chili but some primordial spaghetti sauce sludge from six months ago. It's going to be a long night for me and my bag of tortilla chips.

@simplyput: Your trail mix sounds excellent. I got burnt out on classic GORP long ago, and don't regularly buy the more innovative packages due to cost. I'll try yours as soon as possible.

crag food usually consists of: seasonal fruit, usually an apple, orange, cherries, blueberries, banana, etc. salami and cheese can go a long way. trail mix of choice, usually something salty with some variety of chocolate involved. dried figs and dates are awesome too. leftovers from dinner or breakfast can be awesome. coffee/espresso/tea in a thermos. bison, elk, salmon, boar, beef jerkey. a gallon of water.

This post so far is making crag-food choices feel incredibly inferior... The best I've ever eaten at a crag was in Greece: fresh goat cheese, fresh baked bread and prosciutto or fresh pastries. Either of which was cheaper than a snickers bar. Typical food is more like Snickers, cliff bars, power bars, gus, gummies, etc. Always coffee.

Peanut butter pretzels. 4/1 carb to protein with a touch of salt. Compact, cheap, perfect for multi-pitch or cragging. Good recovery food for the long drive back to dinner, goes great with the 'Send-abration' beer. And yes, lots of water. Sometimes with electrolytes added.

I don't like breakfast very much, but I'll try to down a protein bar or some eggs with my tea. Hike in: drink Mimosas Post hike in: bagels with cream cheese Snacks: Fruit squeezies (kinda like applesauce, but they make ones with other fruits and veggies and some even have oatmeal), cheese and crackers (my personal favorite is smoked gouda), protein bars etc. Lunch: will usually consist of more of the above, but sometimes I'll bring my jetboil to the crag to make mac and cheese. and whiskey for the hike out. Not to mention water and Nuun for electrolytes! Colder weather climbing I am sure to bring the jetboil to brew tea between climbs. (This is for a day of single pitch sport or trad climbing)

Anyway, my crag snacks are typically fruits--apples and bananas being the most common. Also oranges, plums, pears and whatever else I might be able to find in the limited selection offered where I live. Sometimes I'll make some spam musubi--a local favorite. For evening foods, I'll often eat shrimp mixed with pasta and mixed vegetables added. Sometimes I'll make some chicken quesadillas because they are easy to make. For multipitch, I typically dont bring anything unless it's grade IV. If it is, then I'll bring whatever is light--usually granola bars since they are light and I'll be burning the calories off anyway.

I'm too lazy to wrap them, so I just make a big pot of spam and rice. Sticky rice has the glycemic index of brownies ... won't be long before I'm squeeze chimneying P2 of El Matador ...

It's mostly oat flour with canola oil and protein powder plus vitamins and electrolytes (it's what plants crave). I also add 4g of creatine per serving, for helping me send. Lol.

I like to get a bacon, egg and cheese from Sub Alpine, the new coffee shop in Keene Valley, and a double espresso. I do peanut butter bagels Gu packs and stinger waffles during the day. I also throw some Nunn tabs in my water. If I'm saving money I'll get a chicken and stuff to make a salad. That usually lasts two dinners. If not I go to a fancy restaurant without changing or showering

Fritz, To be blunt, your diet is disgusting. Banana is the only thing on the list that could be considered healthy. Everything else is something I would consider "dessert" or a treat to have once a day. Not as performance fuel. I almost want to believe that you are trolling because that is an absurd list of high fat foods.
