Call me old fashioned but an extra $40 a piece seems well worth my life for ones that are proven to work. But if you live through using them, make sure and post a review :) |

The manufacturer is called Good Makings. The company that makes the ascender also makes several other components (carabiners, pulleys, ect.) that are CE certified and fall in the expected price range for the product. Here is their about us page, which appears to be in Latin although Google Translate can only translate about 10% of it... gmclimbing.com/about-magent… |

Seth Kane wrote:look like a knock off of climbtech ascenders to me climbtechgear.com/ascender-…Which is a modified copy of the original Petzl Ascention ascenders. It's not uncommon for climbing manufacturers to copy products from other companies, and it's not uncommon for manufacturers to sell and brand products they dont actually manufacturer. For example, Rock Exotica makes carabiners for a number of big name companies including Petzl, and in a twist of irony, some of RE's products are made by a third party for RE. Beal used to make Black Diamond's ropes (all of them). Petzl's ropes are manufactured by Edelrid, and previously by a different company. Mad Rock's pulleys are made by a third party that sells the same pulleys to a ton of other companies, and so on and so on. |

Chrome-plated, spring-loaded steel cam opens wide for easy rope insertion; knurled release lever offers easy, one-thumb operation. Fits ropes 8-12mm. CE Certified: CE#1019 EN#567 UIAA Certified seems to me that theyre UIAA ratedIf you believe their claim, it looks like the a fixe capitan and at least with the capitan you can trust fixe that it is UIAA certified. Edit: looked at the company a bit more, I wouldn't put 2 pence that they have any type of certification, UIAA or CE. do not be fooled by the CE symbol especially considering the Chinglish on the sight as well as the fact they are based out of Beijing, I would on put £100 that the little CE we are looking at is for Chinese Export NOT Conformité Européenne. |

Taking a closer look, their ascenders nearly look identical to Climb Tech's and Grandwallequipment.com's. It's pretty common for one manufacturer to make the same product for a number of different companies, resulting in several different branded versions of the same product. If I had to guess, I would say that's the case here too. I would feel fine using it. The company has other UIAA certified products, which is not something a counterfeiter would go through the effort of obtaining. |
