So Im searching for a good technical soft-shell pant for all around use but especially winter mountaineering (able to put a warm layer under). Having a hell of a time trying to find. Im 6'6" tall with about a 34 waist and as a hiker/ climber/ cyclist have pretty thick thighs. I either find stuff thats long enough but 5 sizes too big in the waist or fits in the waist but too short and too skinny in the thigh.
Any tall guys that could shoot me their favorite soft shells.
Cheers!

Arcteryx Gamma AR, or Gamma LT in Medium Tall also look at all the Rab softshell pants.

Eddie Bauer makes some stuff in Tall sizes, not everything, and not everything in Tall is awesome kit, but some is good. I have a Peak IV jacket in large tall, but they only make it for a couple years.

LLBean also makes tall sizes. The quality isn't up there with Arc'Teryx (who else is?) but it's functional gear with a great warrantee. For example, you can get a primaloft puffy, base layers, goretex shell all in tall sizes.

While I'm not tall I have the arcteryx gamma AR pant and absolutely love then to the point I've ordered the gamma Lt pant (summer weight) for warm temps.

I've heard rab sizing is a little skinnier in the large sizes but not being 6'6 I've never had to try it. They make excellent gear.

Mammut Trion pants are great for winter mountaineering, ice-climbing and back-country skiing, and they're available in tall sizes. Campsaver has a pair on sale with a 34" waist and long inseams for $210: campsaver.com/trion-pants-m…. They're made of a durable Schoeller fabric, not quite as stretchy as the Arcteryx Gamma but more waterproof and still highly breathable. Other features include zippered side vents, integrated snow gaiters, crampon patches, and ankle flaps with zippers and velcro that can expand to go over ski boots but can be tightened down so they don't snag on your front-points (unlike the Gamma). Fairly slim fit but with enough room for a warm layer underneath.

If you want to Google some reviews also look up the predecessor model (Mammut Castor). They're almost identical. I wore mine to 19,551' in the Yukon.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
