How a Shoulder Tube helped my bad shoulder

After shoulder surgery, an attempted comeback followed by too much pain and basically quitting climbing from 2009 -2011 I thought I would share something that helped me.

I had a Shoulder Tube (google it) I bought for my son who was a baseball pitcher. It's basically an oscillating pole lightly weighted on the ends. I picked it up one day and tried some of the things my kid was doing. Instantly I felt a lot of old scar tissue rip (in a good way) and had a couple of more inches of reach with my bad arm. I used it a few times more over a couple of weeks and my shoulder felt so good I got back to climbing.
It basically gives a dynamic stretch while also strengthening the shoulder stabilization muscles - I think the dynamic stretch helps me the most.
I use the Shoulder Tube exercises from a DVD titled "Accelerated Arm Recovery " by Lee Fiocchi. I picked it up very cheap years back.
Anyway - it got me back into climbing. Too much static stretching after shoulder surgery had given me a lot of pain and this is much better. I'll never be the climber I used to be but I can still have lots of fun and am the best I have been in a while.
If you do it - don't overdo it real aggressively. It was working so great after the first year that I overdid it very aggressively and inflamed my shoulder for a month.
I also asked my surgeon about it and he said if it helps go for it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
