Whatever happened to the La Sportiva Speedsters?
|
Just curious, what happened to La Sportiva Speedster shoe? I have never owned a pair, or climbed in them, but I love the Pythons, and wonder if the speedsters would be similar. I guess they dont even make them anymore anyhoo? So, just wondering why they stopped being produced? |

Same reason they don't make muira slippers anymore. Great shoes. Pricey for slippers. |
|
I thought they were still available in Europe but maybe the internet is lying to me: |
|
They're still produced in Italy but not sold to North American markets. Didn't sell well enough in North America. |

If you love pythons and want a slipper don't you want a cobra? |

the cobras are coming https://www.sportiva.com/activity/activity-climbing/cobra-eco.html |

The skwama is a pretty spectacular replacement |

The speedster was pulled from the North American Market due to poor sales its still available in Europe though. Imo its an amazing shoe, unlike anything else out there though I think it needs to be sized super aggressively to get the most out of it. |

It was ugly as fuck and no one bought it, IMO. Safety third, as they say! |

You can still buy speedsters from the UK/Europe. It's my favorite shoe and I continue to buy them. I've used Bananafingers.co.uk and telemark-pyrenees.com. Total price on the shoes plus shipping usually ends up being $130 or so. Both of those two companies also get the shoes to my front door in under a week (I'm in CO). |

I tried some speedsters a few years ago when they were still on the market and they felt terrible. The fit is not at all similar. Skwamas are similar but stiffer, cobras are similar but bit less aggressive. |
