I've been getting into climbing recently. My free equipment rental clause is about to expire at the gym I'm at so I've been looking into gear. I know that my size for Evolv is 11.5 because the gym only rents out that brand. I have the chance to purchase a slightly used pair of Evolv Shamans for a really good price at that size, however I won't have a chance to try that model on before buying them. For those of you who know, is the fit for the Shaman consistent with Evolv shoes in general? I've read that Shamans can be stiff at first, but given that these are slightly used I don't think it's an issue. Thanks!
I wear a 10.5 shoe and backpacking boot. Bought 10.0 Shamans and they hurt bad enough to make any other bouldering pain disappear. Traded random dude for a 10.5 and they are still really tight, but frackin just right. Only pair of Evolvz I have. Get your true shoe size. They are syntheric, so no stretch over time.
Same goes with 5.10 shoes. Got a Team Shoe years ago from TheClymb.com and had to sell em to a kid at the gym.
Shamans are very aggressive bouldering shoes. If buying your first pair, get less agro shoe like LaSportiva Mythos and siZe down two steps. They stretch to a comfy all day fit.
I'll agree with everyone else. Buy them at your street size. For reference, my street shoe is between an 11.5 and 12, I wear a 12 in Shamans. They fit perfectly.
I've found that all of the Evolvs that I have fit the way the model is intended to fit in the same size. I wear a 12 in all of them and the Defy fit's like a comfortable trad that I can wear all day and fits almost flat toed. The Predators in the same size fit a little more aggressively, not stuffed sausage tight but I take them off to belay. Call it a good sport fit. The Shamans in the same size don't leave any empty space around my foot but don't hurt. I was bouldering in them a size down (11) and didn't find any performance advantage and it hurt.
