Hi there, this is t quite a climbing trip, but it's a fairly serious undertaking and I don't want to do it solo! Takes about five days, lots of off trail, mostly above 10,000 ft. Traverses the spine of the white mountains, so great views of the Sierra unless it's all smoked out. Water is sort of an issue, so it could be type 2 fun, mild sufferfest, but otherworldly beautiful. Let me know if you have any interest, I'm thinking the first week of October. Have fun out there.
I've hiked to the peak from barcroft. Kicked my ass so much worse than summiting Whitney. But such a beautiful place. Probably went through almost 3 liters in a day hike. Is there a fair amount of climbing? Also the weather changes just as fast as any 14er. My hike was hot and sunny and we descended with hail. I could be interested in this hike but water and weight is a big concern. With the drive and remoteness, you are taking on a big expedition. Have you been there before? It is possible to mountain bike parts. Could help with luggage. I'd like to know more about your plans. The Whites are the most beautiful and desolate mountains I've ever been to. Pretty nice seeing bighorn and wild horses.
My daughter and I did a White Mountains Traverse (WMT) July of 2016- a good snow year. We went up Furnace creek out of Dyer Nevada after leaving our bicycles on the road to Boundary Peak trail. Water was iffy the first (hot) day, but then we reached the crest and spent 5 days on an amazing people-less highest basin/range range hike. Down past the crashed airplane - WW2 to the Mt Dubois "Trailhead". Much fun- the dad of the postmistress gave us a ride up Furnace Creek, and let us park our car there. The bike ride back- in 40mph headwinds- was memorable- and forgettable. Californias Whites- Try them- you'l like them !
