Ill be moving to Lenox MA in a few months for the school year and I'm looking for places to climb near by. From what I understand Mt. greylock is near by but there doesn't seem to be any areas to climb there. If anyone knows of climbing in Berkshire county or the surrounding area please let me know. I'll also be looking for ice routes during the winter if any exist in MA.
You'll be about an hour and a half drive from Farley Ledges located in Erving, MA. 300+ sport/trad/mixed lines there. No guidebooks, hook up with a local who can introduce you to the routes.
I've only been to Chapel Ledge, and while I liked the small crag there weren't a lot of routes/options. I know someone who climbed a number of times at Great Barrington, and while it's larger than Chapel Ledge it's also quick to climb out. If you boulder I would imagine the options open up more for this area.
My advice - find a friend with a car who climbs. There's very high quality stuff within a day's drive... Gunks, Whites, and ADKs ...
Thanks guys. It seems I'll have to drive a little to each place which is no big deal. I'm currently trying to talk to those involved with the Western climbing coalition to become involved and find climbing partners.
