What route is the free solo dean potter did in valley uprising?
|
he did a free solo where it was very steep overhang and his last three moves were left hand crimp right hand sliper to right hand top out. |
|
I think that may have been separate reality. |

Rostrum, Alien Finish. 12b. |
|
Wasn't it Heaven? |

Potter |

Not heaven or separate reality. It wasnt crack climbing, it was about 30 degree overhang and the ground below was about 30 degree slope downward, so if he fell even at the beginning he would probably slide off the mountain. Very short route. |

To me it looked like the very top of El Cap. He also fell for a good amount of time before he opened his chute, which makes me think it was El Cap. |

Haha wow watching Dean vs Alex solo Heaven is pretty striking. Both the increase in production value over 8-9 years and also the attitude and mindset difference. Potter is screaming like a banshee when he tops out, just pure emotion. Alex is so collected, chalking up and taking a glance down before topping out. There's a cut so maybe there's some celebration but really it doesn't seem like it. Really intriguing to compare the mindsets. |

Im not talking about his free base jumping. Im talking about the free solo he tops out on in my imgur links |

I don't know but post this question on Supertopo and someone will know within a few minutes |
|
It's either Fly Swatter (12a) or Isaiah 2:21 (12d), located at the top of the east face of Elephant Rock. Probably the former, because the flake below the lip matches the topo for Fly Swatter. |

Doesn't look anything like elephant rock picture |

Look closer, jamesldavis1. Also, in the background of your imgur image is the Cookie Sheet. Water streaks give it away as do the streaks on the slab below the Elephant Rock climb. |

Here's another look from a slightly different angle. And here's a photo from the web nicolamartinez.blogspot.com… (the blog incorrectly calls it Elephant's Eliminate, which is a 12d roof crack on the opposite side of the formation) |

Oh wow you are right, it just looks tiny in the pic. Thanks. |

James, you only have to hit "submit" once ;) |

jamesldavis1 wrote:where i can find footage of the full climb?I haven't seen the valley film, but the footage of him on that route you're asking about was originally in the "Fly or Die" episode of the First Ascent Series. Can't remember if it's the whole route, but definitely from jamming the roof part of the flake through the topout. |
