My Fiance and I are getting married August 8th, and I'm trying to plan the best honeymoon climbing trip/honeymoon destination for August 10-20 (ish). From what I've read Kalymnos is the perfect honeymoon destination, I'm just worried about the heat - does anyone have the beta on temps in the AM or if chasing the shade is possible and still enjoyable? I've read that its doable in August, but I've also read its unbearable.
If Kalymnos is too hot, where should we go for a European sport climbing/bouldering trip (5.11/5.12- and V5/V6) climbing that is also an awesome honeymoon spot?
I appreciate the help... this is a tough decision.
I have friends who went to Kalymnos in July. They said it was really hot, but the climbing was good when in shade. If you want an island type experience, you may also want to check out Mallorca.
My husband and I are also planning to travel in early August for a delayed honeymoon. We wanted to hit up Kalymnos or Mallorca but are worried about it being too hot.... Were also thinking of going to northern Italy.
Would love other thoughts on early August temps. :)
UUUUUUUGGGhhhh...Kalymnos can be bitchy hot...in OCTOBER! Think General Sherman once said if he owned Kalymnos and owned Hell that he'd live in Hell and rent out Kalymnos. Hmmm...actually...I think he said that about Texas... Still. I wouldn't even want to know what August is like.
Having said that, I HAVE talked to more than a few climbers who said yah, you CAN climb June/July/August. As you say, you chase morning shade, sun comes over to fry you about 1 (most of all the good shit faces direct west), then you trot on down to the beach and swim over to Telendos and back.
So? I know that's not INCREDIBLY helpful...but yah. Like I say. I heard rumors and whispers of stories that indeed you CAN do the direct summer season...
