Hey, has anyone ever ice climbed with any austrialpin tools, specifically the Hugo axe, and the sky steep crampons. Any info would be appreciated Thanks.
Climbed a couple of times with the Vampir 3. The Austrialpin picks come with a pretty good bite. I even met people saying they blunted the front teeth a little to get the axe out of the ice more easy, I for my part liked the good bite quite well but switched to Petzl Quarks (like them bit more for alpine stuff). The HuGo I only climbed once, seemd to work fine on steep terrain (artificial ice tower) but can't say to much.
Before you buy something exotic ( aka hard to get in North America), check prices for shipping and availability of spare parts, especially blades. I was horny to get some E-Climb tools but then did the math and it was way to complicated/expensive!
