Because of the Scarpa rebel ultra GTX being discontinued what light weight ice boot is the next runner up?

Does anyone have experience with the Asolo Eiger GV? It appears to be similar to the Scarpa rebel ultra GTX but 5oz heaver for the pair. With what i can come up with online that appears to be a good runner up.

Though they are being discontinued they are still around and can be bought. So I would search out a pair. Might even find them on sale ...

The Scarpa Rebel Pro is identical to the Ultra, save the upper cuff, so look for those as well.

The Asolo Eiger GV does appear to be the closest competitor. The Eiger GV is much warmer than the Rebel Ultra, and fits a bit wider. Fantastic boots if you can find them.

I wore the Eigers climbing in the Alps during July; I noticed the following:

>Plenty warm; I would could see myself using these to replace my nepals on all but the colder days IF they held up.

>Lacing was a total pain in the ass; I know I could replace laces so they stretch less, however I don't ever remember needing to fiddle with any other boot to get a decent fit.

>Soles wore QUICKLY on the front and rear parts making crampon fit less confidence inspiring than I would have liked.

>My take; its an expensive boot but if it fits your foot well as it did mine, it is a solid choice to save some ounces if you need to do it. I would not buy another pair as I am not at a level where they make that large of a difference compared to the nepals.

Rebel Ultra GTX is still available in Europe. If you know your size, you can mail order them:

That said, my son has the Asolo Eiger GV and loves them. Almost as light as the Ultra, but warmer.

Anyone know why the Rebels are discontinued? I led a couple 5s last year. I think the only reason I got up the nerve was how confident my feet felt. I always felt like I was standing on a ledge when rocking the Rebel GTXs and Cassin Bladerunners

Is Scarpa coming out with similar model?

No clue why NA dropped the Rebels, I know a lot of athletes who love theirs. There is nothing new for S15, we won't know if there'll be anything comparable coming for F15 until Winter OR, at the end of January.

I asked this question of the Scarpa guy at the OR Show. He told me that U.S. buyers want a $600 boot to last forever. The Rebel Ultras, as a light weight boot, tends to wear out faster than a heavy leather boot.

The Ultra is being replaced in the U.S. with a boot with a similar last, but with a heavier leather body. Can't remember what it's called. It looks like the love-child of the Ultra and the Mont Blanc.

The Mt. Blanc Pro...Looks like it combines the Rebel Ultra upper and the Mt. Blanc lower. Like Kai said, a love child of sorts...200 grams heavier than the Ultra ( single boot, size 42)...Pretty sweet looking boot in my opinion...

I wouldn't consider the Mont Blanc Pro to be a replacement for the Rebel series of boots. Far from it. It is a comfier, softer, more sensitive version of the Mont Blanc, but far from the rock, mixed and ice performance of the Rebel series. If that is really the reason then it unfortunately forecasts the NA life expectancy of the absolutely fantastic Rebel Ice...

FWIW, the Mont Blanc Pro is essentially a Mont Blanc but with the sock-fit tech of the Rebel series, i.e. more sensitive and 'closer' fitting than their 'traditional' boots, and with a softer, more relaxed sole.

(For reference, I currently have, or have previously used, the Rebel Carbon, Rebel Pro, Rebel Ultra, Rebel Ice, Mont Blanc, Mont Blanc Pro, Phantom Guide and Phantom 6000 boots from Scarpa.)

Isn't Rebel Pro the same as the Ultra without the "gaiter"?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
