Strange lights in Moab

So I just got back from a trip to he desert , but it reminded me about something we saw earlier this spring and haven't figured out yet.

This spring we were driving back to moab from castle valley. We were getting close to the natural spring . We were following this massive truck , and on the back of the truck was a guy sitting in a gyrating chair that was connected to a giant spot light . They were driving slow through the canyon using this spotlight to shine up and down the walls in the canyon. We followed them for nearly 10 min going nice and slow to try and figure out what they were looking for. Eventually they stopped ahead of us and insisted we pass them . As we passed I asked the driver of the truck what they were doing . The only response we were given is "its a project " . We were like OK??! And drove off.

Any body know what they were up to?? The truck looked to be really expebsive ...

I also saw this in the spring maybe 3 years ago in the exact same spot. Really bright light!! We thought it may have been some kind of odd SAR rig, but I guess not. Wonder what they are doing...

It is Canyonlands by Night doing their light and sound show they do it every night. If you looked out to the river you probably would have seen their boat

I have to say that I was pretty disappointed when this thread had nothing to do with UFOs

I was hoping it was along the lines of the Marfa lights in Texas. What ARE those lights? My favorite explanation is luminous gases from earthquakes.
