Climber Crafts? Show off yer rope rugs!
|
Does anyone out there have cool ideas for repurposing used gear? Post up your rope rugs or other climber crafts you've made! I've seen some old gym holds used as drawer pulls, or coffee mug handles, old ropes used for swings and Bachar ladders. Anyone else do anything unique or cool? |

A similar post at supertopo from a few years back. |

Hey Dallas, great use of the old pins for a coat rack. Loved it. Very creative. |

Somewhere here on MP,,there was a post with many examples of rugs and other crafts. Probably over a year ago somewhere. And posts for rope hammock use for old ropes too. It's always been a popular reuse of your 'historic' ropes,,,a place where you can lie down and tell stories and adventures under the stars by firelight, about the best climbing experience you had with each rope woven into the hammock. |

How many ropes did you use for that hammock?! Are there plans anywhere? Or did you just wing it? |

Got an old rope,,,just started weaving (if you could call it that) the ropes in to the mess. No pattern. Used 3 around the perimeter at first,,,and cinched it up very tight as my base unit. Then started to loop in more ropes, but they pulled the 3 sides together and reduced the size drastically..So in came the white PVC pipes as 'stretchers', to keep the ropes out at the max perimeter. I've used maybe 30 different pieces of rope..a few were 55 meters, but most were short ropes of under 120 feet, as they had been chopped of bad sections long ago and used for old topropes before finally being sent to 'hammock duty' about 2 years ago. UV fade has been affecting them much more now than they ever got during climbing life. Underside is perfect color,,top is faded. And it is shaded by several trees so gets very few hours of direct sun on it at all,,,,just low angle. |

That's pretty cool. I don't have much of an imagination for stuff like that, wish I did! |
