Hi, all. So? Thinking about heading for ther Chinas this fall. Had originally wanted to fly out at the beginning of October...but now it looks like the best I can do is leave the states at the very END of October. So? So I had originally wanted to spend a quality three months exploring China. But the question now becomes, will weather hold out? I KNOW, of course, that rocktober is the best time to climb anything, anywhere...but as I say, I just don't think I can make that happen. Does anybody have any solid beta on what China weather is usually like in mid-Dec through mid-January in Yangshuo, Getu, and/or Liming? Is climbing still possible/probable? Or might it be better to postpone this trip when I could do an October through early December thing... Thoughts? Comments? Howls of grief?

Cali boy bumping MY post. Alright, Morris. Just to give you a heads up, I've been in contact with Kevin Wojton, co-author of Climb China. Ol' Kev says winter is the real pits for China climbing. Says (and I'm paraphrashing here) that from mid-ish Dec through April it's hella wet, stupid cold, or both. Says the bold and the patient can find the odd sunny day...but not to count on it. Mexico, here I come...

Excuse me, I'm a WOMAN. Thanks. We might take out chances since we'll be living in Taiwan.

Liming is climbable year-round. Annual averages from weatherspark weatherspark.com/#!graphs;a=China;dt=6584;mspp=29471016;units=temperature:c Book here junshanclimber.com/c/liming… And there will be a new version coming out very soon (in time for trad festival at the end of October).

Hey Alix, come check out the Blue Mountains that time of year! Ana, Emma, Peggy, and another lady friend we met in Tonsai last year will be there. I'm planning to be there the full month of February. See you in Taipei before then most likely...

Mid-Dec to mid-Jan is pretty miserable in Yangshuo, it’s cold and humid there, which makes it FEEL colder than it really is. If you get a sunny day you’ll have some nice climbing, but in general mid-Dec to mid-Jan is not great climbing weather in Yangshuo. Liming can get a lot of sun in winter. Its elevation is pretty similar to Colorado, so think the winter weather we have here, except with less snow. Winter is the dry season in Yunnan, and with its elevation, the air is also drier. So even though the temperature can be colder than Yangshuo, it won’t FEEL as cold due to the lower humidity level. Sunny days and blue sky is a rarity in China, but it’s pretty common in Yunnan in the winter time. Mid-Dec to mid-Jan wouldn’t be my preferred time to visit Liming, but if that’s all you have, it can be done.
