New gym in Asheville, NC

I had been hearing through the grapevine that Stuart was going to be putting in a new gym at some point. I ran into him mountain biking at bent creek a while back and he confirmed that he had the property and was planning to break ground soon. Sounded like there would be taller walls for lead climbing, which I think would be a great thing for Asheville. With all the climbers in the area having a place to be able to get out of the cold or rain and lead would be great for those of us who dont boulder much. I also think its great that Stuart is the one doing it because he is so established in the community. It was about 6 months ago that i talked with him but havent seen or heard about much going on. Does anyone know if this is still happening or when we might see some progress? I believe that the property will be down by Carrier Park off Amboy rd. Hope someone has some great news that its currently being built;)

I think I remember Stuart saying that they were hoping for September. But obviously if they are just doing grading at this point that probably won't be the case. Im just glad to know that they are working towards it. Im excited to have a larger facility in the area. I think it will be a great addition for the climbing community.

The gym is slated to be open around October as of now. Plans include lead climbing, bouldering, and exercise area, among other things.

Update on this one, the gym will likely be opening soon. I would GUESS mid Novemberish. but realistically you could probably already climb on the walls.

I just stopped by the location on Amboy rd. in Asheville right next to the river. I asked the construction guys outside when they were opening they didn't really know I got a "when it is finished" answer and that they may be waiting on some permits. I told them to get back to work, I needed them to finish it NOW! In reply they demanded money and I told them I left my wallet in the car.

They were working on putting up a ~50ft wall on the outside of the gym.

Upon peeking into the windows I saw a person on a cherry picker bolting rocks to the wall.

This is all the info I have.

Awesome, had no idea there was a new gym in the works. Anyone know how I can get in touch with the owner(s)? Thanks.

Sorry to rehash, but is there a new gym in Asheville or not? There's nothing on Google.

I come to town on occasion to visit my family, and when I can't get outside, I've gone to Climbmax. I'm not a huge fan of that place, and thought a new bouldering gym had opened on Hendersonville Rd. Did it close?

In other words, is there a campus board in town? :)

Yeah it's there, Google smokey mountain adventure center or SMAC I believe

There is now the SMAC which is owned by the same guy who owns ClimbMax. Bigger and taller indoor area than ClimbMax, but still fairly small in capacity by modern standards.

Smac is a great place! Lead routes, bouldering, and tr! They have a pretty good campus board and it seems like they are installing a system board.

Thanks guys, that sounds like the place!
