Climbing Rope Stored Wet..??
|
Long story short: my rope got wet on a route about two weeks ago. I put it in my rope bag to carry it on the descent, and gave it to a friend to store it for me. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if she aired it out like I asked her to. If she did not, is there an issue with storing a rope, coiled and wet? |

Has it since been dried out? Do you have the rope now? Any kind of mildew or mold in the rope bag? I'd inspect the rope for soft, mushy spots or signs of deterioration. If I don't see any, good-to-go. |
|
I don't have it still. I won't have access to it for a few weeks. I'm making sure she lays it out tonight hopefully, since I realized that it might not have been, initially. |

Do you know how long it takes monofilament fishing line to break down when deep underwater away from uv? Years/decades/longer. Nylon is nylon. |

it wasnt in a bag? ... then its fine ... itll dry out anyways |

Even if you get mold/mildew on your rope, in that time frame, it will just make your rope unpleasant to work with/use, rather than unsafe. When you get it back, if it is unpleasant, wash it & dry it appropriately. |

I'm not sure if she aired it out like I asked her to.
Any response other than "yer gonna die" would be appreciated! Bitch-slap her with a #6 Camalot |

You MIGHT consider therapy. ;-)i know! would you really risk damaging your# 6 cams over something like this?!? This is just one of few examples of when hexes are superior to cams |

Relating a bugsbunny-like-cam bitch slapping to a tragedy in CA is inappropriate, even for a place like MP.com. Poor taste sir. |

I do not think that jokes about violence against women are funny. I don't think they are appropriate. Nor did I compare it to the killings in California. I said that the timing for the delivery of it was especially unfortunate. But, let's make that comparison: She didn't dry the rope like I asked, hit her with a big cam. She didn't have sex with me like I asked, kill her. Same sentiment, differing only in degree. I don't think either is at all funny. |

I do not believe that niceleg2 was actually suggesting for the OP to bludgeon someone with a cam. I think it a satirical jest to convey mutual annoyance if someone did not dry out his rope. Having said that, i can understand if you feel that is comment was a little brash. However, the point in which it became really distasteful is when you related this remark to a recent tragedy. I hope you don't actually believe the comparison that you made... In an absence of a large cam, this is what i do to people who don't dry out my gear youtube.com/watch?v=75SX327… |

He said don't say 'yer gonna die' and I didn't. |
