Removing Soot from Tent Fabric

Last weekend a friend and I managed to smear soot from our stove on the door of my brand new tent (BD Firstlight with the NanoShield fabric). I'd like to remove the stain if I can before it sets in permanently. When I've tried removing soot from fabric in the past, I usually have only succeeded in making the problem worse.

Do any of you have a method which has worked for you? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

i would start with dish detergent. if that doesnt do it move up to something like goo gone.

Soot is just about the world's perfect black pigment. Detergent MAY work, but don't get your hopes up. I wouldn't expect Goo Gone to do much, since soot is totally insoluble in just about everything.

Look for a dry cleaning sponge. It's a waterless cleaning sponge. And brush as lightly as possible so you don't smear it in.
